In a statement issued from Rome in line with Italy's presidency of the G7, it was highlighted that the leaders discussed various specific aid initiatives for Ukraine. This includes the $50 billion in loans, which are expected to be repaid using extraordinary profits generated from frozen Russian assets in the group's countries, through financial market trading.
Additionally, the statement reaffirmed the intention to continue "to support the Ukrainian people’s fight for freedom, sovereignty and independence."
The leaders of Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, the USA, Japan, and the EU condemned the increasing military cooperation between Russia and North Korea and announced measures against those who bolster Moscow's military capabilities.
Regarding the situation in Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, the G7 leaders called for a "peaceful and orderly transition through the definition of an inclusive political process."
They also emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Lebanon.
