Anyone who values a tidy home will want to maintain cleanliness and freshness in the toilet. However, despite regular cleaning, it’s not always easy to eliminate unpleasant smells from the toilet bowl.

If you notice an off-putting odor and guests are on the way, there's a simple method to save the situation swiftly. Surprisingly, you won't need to rush to the store for special air fresheners.

Coffee – not just for your morning pick-me-up

While coffee is mainly known for being an aromatic beverage that jumpstarts our day, its uses extend beyond just your cup. Black-ground coffee is an effective and natural way to neutralize bad odors, including those in the toilet. How does it work? Coffee has a strong, distinct aroma that absorbs and masks unpleasant smells.

Sprinkle a few teaspoons of ground coffee into the toilet. Leave it for about 15 minutes, then flush with water. The coffee will quickly neutralize any unwanted odors, leaving the bathroom smelling fresh. Additionally, this trick is environmentally friendly and budget-conscious.

vinegar and baking soda – a special task force

If you don't have coffee on hand, there’s another effective way to tackle bad odors and stains in the toilet. Baking soda and vinegar are popular among supporters of natural cleaning methods. Both ingredients work well together, creating a mixture that neutralizes odors and cleans surfaces thoroughly.

Pour 1/2 cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl, then add equal vinegar. This mixture will immediately start reacting – producing foam that penetrates the inside of the bowl, eliminating dirt, limescale, and bacteria responsible for bad smells. Let this mixture sit for several hours, ideally overnight. In the morning, flush the toilet – it will sparkle with cleanliness, and the air will be free of unpleasant odors.
