A team of 12 bakers created this extraordinary baguette, measuring 461 feet. They started at 9 PM (Eastern Time) and continued their meticulous work for 14 hours.
The baguette is approximately 235 times longer than a traditional one in a typical store. It was crafted in Suresnes on the outskirts of Paris during an event specially organized for French bakers and confectioners.
"Everything has been confirmed. We are all very excited that we broke this record and that it happened in France," said Anthony Arrigault, one of the bakers, shortly after the record was confirmed.
For this special occasion, the dough, which was baked in a specially designed slow-turning oven on wheels, was carefully kneaded and shaped. The baking process took place in a long tent set up specifically for the event.
In accordance with the rules, the bread had to be at least 2 inches wide. The baguette, after 14 hours of diligent work and baking, met all the official requirements.
"Suresnes is honored to have set the record for the world's longest baguette, a national symbol of our culinary heritage, showcasing the mastery of bakers who uphold tradition. Congratulations to the Suresnes bakers for participating in this event and for their daily commitment to sharing and fostering community spirit," said Suresnes Mayor Guillaume Boudy.
Reuters Agency reports that this achievement by the French has outdone the Italians. In 2019, Italian bakers succeeded in baking a baguette that measured 433 feet. The record-breaking baguette crafted near Paris, measuring 461 feet, was enjoyed by spectators on-site.
