The Legion referenced a theory suggesting the FSB's involvement in the 1999 bombings, a significant event believed to have facilitated Vladimir Putin's ascent to the Russian presidency.
"The 'Freedom of Russia' Legion's official statement blames Putin's terrorist regime for today's tragedy in Moscow. Such manifestations of the Kremlin's authoritarianism have been evident since Putin assumed power, making another bloody event unsurprising. The tragedy was meticulously planned, including its depiction in the media. It's crucial to note that our Legion does not target the Russian civilian population," stated the "Freedom in Russia" Legion.
The 1999 Bombing
The group's statement harks back to the 1999 terrorist bombings in Russia, igniting the Second Chechen War and eventually leading to Putin's election as President of Russia.
Residents in Ryazan were startled by suspicious bags transported into a building's cellar, where a detonator and bags containing a substance identified as hexogen, an explosive, were discovered. Each bag weighed around 110 pounds.
Some theories, endorsed by former FSB officer Alexander Litvinenko—who was later assassinated using polonium—suggest the Federal Security Service orchestrated the bombings, which claimed approximately 300 lives.
Shooting in Krasnogorsk
A shooting event disrupted the peace in Krasnogorsk, Moscow, at the Crocus City Hall concert hall on Friday. According to the Russian Investigative Committee, the casualty toll escalated to 115 by Saturday, with an additional 121 individuals requiring hospitalization. The incident also caused an explosion within the venue. Subsequently, mass weekend events and university classes across Russia were suspended.
Eyewitnesses reported gunfire aimed at attendees alongside explosions. The building experienced a fire, leading to partial roof collapse. Security measures included a citywide lockdown.
The Islamic State has asserted responsibility for the Moscow terrorist attack, yet without substantiating their claim.
