French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourne has made a decisive statement regarding discussions with Russian officials. The politician emphasized France's new stance of ceasing talks with Russia, attributing this decision to the dissemination of false messages and information by Russian entities.

International criticism has frequently targeted actions and statements by Vladimir Putin and the Russian government for spreading misleading information.

For instance, in the lead-up to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Russian authorities denied any plans for aggression despite amassing significant military forces along the Ukraine border. Following the invasion, they used unfounded pretexts such as "denazification" and "demilitarization" of Ukraine to justify their actions, sparking widespread outrage and condemnation.

Russia's attempts to minimize the extent of military operations and their effects on Ukrainian civilians, including denying strikes on civilian structures, starkly contrast with abundant evidence. Moreover, portraying their military aggression as a defense of Orthodoxy or a protection of Russian-speaking communities in Ukraine has been criticized as manipulative and unjustifiable.

Such false claims and manipulation of information have led to international condemnation, sanctions against Russia and its representatives, and bolstered support for Ukraine.

"It is not in our interest to talk with Russian officials"

Expressing his exasperation, French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourne announced the discontinuation of discussions with Russian officials, citing the propagation of falsehoods as the primary reason.

Today it is not in our interest to talk with Russian officials, because the messages that are being issued, and the information that is being passed on are false - Stéphane Séjourne was quoted as saying by the newspaper "Le Monde".
