Former Ukrainian military official arrested: $1M found in apartment linked to conscription evasion

A search was conducted on Wednesday, February 21, in the Kiev apartment which belongs to the aforementioned ex-head of the Chernihiv District Military Medical Commission. Nearly a million dollars in cash were discovered within the dwelling - details "Suspilne Novyny".
Journalistic sources reveal that the Desniansky District Court in Chernihiv has put the suspect in custody without the option of bail.
A video has surfaced online, where the officer can be seen extracting the found cash from various hiding spots. Clearly, quite a substantial amount had been put aside during his military service.
The SBU representatives from Chernihiv region have refrained from commenting on the whole affair so far. However, it leaked to the media causing great uproar. After all, Ukraine is battling aggression and requires soldiers as much as it needs sustenance.
An Ukrainian commentator observes that the significant amount found in the flat of the former commission head is likely tied to corrupt practices that enabled people to avoid military conscription. He highlights the daily corruption within Ukrainian military commissions.
In our country, the state of affairs, particularly regarding the hospital commission for conscripts, is indeed tragic. Depending on the region and your appearance and attitude, it’s not uncommon that doctors subtly suggest a bribe to avoid military service. It's a sorry spectacle, with such services starting at around $5,000. It seems military conscription is strictly for ideological patriots and the less privileged - says a user X from Kharkiv.
They recently encircled the village and drafted all the men for the military - shares a citizen from Ukraine.
Note that the Ukrainian military has been grappling with an escalating shortage of personnel for the past few months. As a result, territorial replenishment centers are forcibly conscripting men who are dodging military service. The draft is deemed necessary to counter the adversary army.
