Former customs officer stole nearly $19,000 from passengers
Investigators discovered 17 incidents that took place between mid-2023 and early 2024. Before he was caught, he stole $18,700 from 18 passengers.
"Evidence collected during the investigation showed that Timothy was surreptitiously stealing cash from arriving international passengers during border enforcement examinations and currency verifications performed as part of his official duties as an assigned CBP Officer at Naples Airport," – the U.S. Attorney's office said in a statement.
The man faces 10 years in prison
As part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Timothy admitted to embezzling property of another officer or employee of the United States, for which he faces up to 10 years in prison.
Once, Timothy stole $2,200 while counting cash during the inspection of a person arriving from the Bahamas.
