Anti-terrorism forces entered the company building where the attack took place, according to Reuters. Police, fire trucks, and ambulances were also called to the scene. The shooter, a 76-year-old former employee of the company, gunned down two men and a woman. While their names haven't been released, it was confirmed that the owner of European Navigation was among the dead.
Greek news portal Proto Thema obtained a statement from a witness of the event. "We were sitting at our desks and heard gunshots," said one of the employees. According to the witness, the shooter ordered the employees to vacate the room.
The shooter was found dead in a different part of the building from where the victims were located, as reported by Reuters. The police spokeswoman mentioned a gun found next to the 76-year-old, suggesting that the man had died by suicide. The police cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.
Significantly, shootings are a rarity in Greece, a country with strict gun laws, as Reuters reports.
