"A ceasefire at this stage of the war would be a gift to the terrorist organization Hamas and would enable them to threaten the inhabitants of Israel once again," Cohen argued during a conversation with an unidentified foreign diplomat cited in the foreign affairs department's statement, as reported by the Times of Israel.

Cohen's statement, as pointed out by the AFP, is a response to the escalating appeals from the global community for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted on Tuesday that there is a difference of opinion between Israel and the USA regarding the future status of the Gaza Strip. On Monday, Israeli media exposed information about the growing tension between Netanyahu's government and the White House.

Even Israel's staunchest ally calls for a ceasefire

The US President Joe Biden's administration is advocating for the Palestinian Authority to take control of the Gaza Strip post-war. However, Netanyahu continues to insist that Israel will enforce its control over the Palestinian semi-enclave once the war is concluded. Additionally, Biden is urging Israel to end the intensive stage of fighting in the Gaza Strip and reconvene discussions on the establishment of a Palestinian state.

On Tuesday, during a meeting dedicated to fundraising for the presidential election campaign for US elections in 2024, Biden expressed that Netanyahu should alter his "hard-line government," as it is costing the Jewish state international support due to the death of thousands of Palestinian civilians in attacks on the Gaza Strip.
