Pikes Peak, a unique mountain racetrack situated in Colorado, United States, has played host to one of the world's most significant hill-climb races since 1916. The finish line of this section ascends to an altitude of up to 14,100 feet, with the track spanning an approximate length of 12.4 miles.
During the recent Pikes Peak International Hill Climb event, Ford decided to spotlight an incredibly special vehicle. The SuperVan 4.2, a car rooted in 1970s traditions, got a modern upgrade. This time around, a potent electric engine was incorporated, offering engineers expansive opportunities for innovation.
A power of 1,400 horsepower, nearly a 2-ton aerodynamic downforce, and acceleration to 62 mph in under 2 seconds - these features set it apart. With a time of 8:47.682, Romain Dumas secured 2nd place in Pikes Peak 2023. Nevertheless, that's not the only point of pride for the Americans.
The aforementioned time led to a new absolute record for Ford in the Open Class category. The SuperVan 4.2 became the first vehicle to record a time under 9 minutes in this category, exceeding the previous record by almost 37 seconds. In celebration of this remarkable feat, Ford released a film showcasing the intense preparations leading up to the Pikes Peak race. It's certainly worth a few minutes of your time!
