Coffee is one of the most frequently consumed beverages in the world. For many, a morning cup of coffee is an indispensable part of the day. However, not everyone realizes that pairing coffee with certain products can negatively impact our health.

Coffee stimulates the nervous and circulatory systems and provides a range of vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins, magnesium, potassium, and manganese. However, the health benefits of coffee depend on its consumption alongside other products. Some react with caffeine, limiting the absorption of valuable substances. We suggest which combinations are best avoided.

Never drink these with coffee

There's a myth that coffee flushes vitamins out of the body. In reality, it only limits their absorption. That's why medications or dietary supplements should not be taken with caffeinated beverages. This doesn't mean we can't drink them at all during the day. Experts advise waiting at least two hours after taking medication.

Coffee also reduces calcium absorption. Therefore, it should not be consumed during meals containing dairy products such as yogurt, cottage cheese, or kefir. Drinking coffee with milk is allowed, but no more than three cups a day, to avoid disturbances in calcium ion levels, which could lead to serious health problems.

What not to combine with coffee?

Legumes, such as peas, beans, or chickpeas, are rich in iron. Its deficiency can lead to anemia. Therefore, to optimize iron absorption, legumes should not be consumed with coffee.

The same goes for products rich in zinc, such as fish, seafood, pork, beef, veal, lamb, eggs, and yellow cheese. Drinking coffee during a meal that contains these products inhibits the absorption of zinc, which can lead to serious health problems, including dermatological issues and thyroid and immune system disorders.
