Scientific research increasingly emphasizes the importance of omega-3 fatty acids for human health. These components, although not produced by the human body, are crucial for its proper functioning.

How does the insufficient amount of omega-3 fatty acids affect the body?

Skin. One of the first and most noticeable symptoms of omega-3 deficiency is skin irritation and dryness. This is due to insufficient production of oils that require omega-3 fatty acids for their creation.

Hair and nails. Weak, brittle, and dull hair and nails can also be the consequence of a lack of omega-3 fatty acids, which are responsible for nourishing the hair follicles and nail matrix.

They work almost like aspirin. They reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke

Eyes. Dryness of the eyes is another indicator of a lack of omega-3 in the diet. People with this problem complain of burning, itching, and the feeling of sand in the eyes.

Mental state. Depression may be linked to low levels of omega-3 fatty acids in the body. These fatty acids play a key role in the functioning of neurons and the production of neurotransmitters, such as serotonin.

Joints. Pain and stiffness in the joints may intensify in case of omega-3 deficiency, as these acids have anti-inflammatory effects.

Fatigue and insomnia. Chronic feelings of fatigue, even after a good night's sleep, may indicate a low level of omega-3 in the body. However, good sleep may not even occur - it's the DHA acid that helps regulate the circadian rhythm.

Brain fog. Difficulties with concentration, memory, and clarity of thought are often associated with an omega-3 deficiency.

Insufficient supply of omega-3 fatty acids may also be associated with cardiovascular problems and severe menstrual cramps.

What to eat?

Regular supplementation and a balanced diet rich in omega-3 sources, such as fatty fish, flaxseed, or walnuts, will help avoid serious health problems associated with their deficiency.

If you observe the above symptoms, it is worth consulting with a doctor or dietitian.
