The fire ignited in the eastern Moscow location, and the upper floors of the building quickly filled with smoke.

"Some people saved themselves by breaking windows, while others were evacuated by rescuers," reports the Russian independent portal Meduza.

Over 60 firefighters participated in the rescue operation. Around 200 individuals were saved from the building; 120 people left on their own, while rescuers assisted 80 others. The TASS agency reported that four people were hospitalized.

State news agencies suggested that the fire might have been caused by an electrical equipment short circuit. The Shot portal noted that there was no automatic fire alarm system in the building.

"Residents report that white smoke is visible and there's a sharp smell at the fire site," reported the Shot portal, which also published a recording.

The building, which once functioned as a power plant, currently accommodated numerous rooms utilized by various service points.

"At the time of the fire outbreak, a cadet class was having a photo session to celebrate graduation. According to the students, the entire class managed to escape quickly," reports the portal MSK1.ru.
