Finnish innovation transforms walls into efficient heat sources

Approximately 66 percent of household energy is used for heating. Finnish researchers are developing new technology that will reduce expenses and increase comfort. The first products are expected to be on the market next year.

The heating film, popular in modern heating systems, is a revolutionary technology that transforms walls into efficient heat sources. This allows for replacing traditional radiators with sleek heating panels that evenly distribute heat throughout the room. The film not only enhances the interior aesthetics by eliminating visible radiators but also enables better space utilization and significantly reduces energy consumption. It's an excellent option for the colder months, especially where energy efficiency and thermal comfort are priorities.

Halia system as an innovative heating method

A few years ago, the Finnish army approached the National Research and Development Center VTT to create "decoys" to heat large spaces and quickly confuse the enemy. Engineers completed this task while also realizing that similar technology could be helpful in homes and offices.

The result of this work is the Halia system. It is based on a film with a low-voltage heating element. Its thin profile allows for installation in almost any material, from walls to furniture and fabrics. This film does not limit interior design possibilities; on the contrary, it opens up new opportunities.

What is the Halia system and how does it work?

The Halia system reduces energy consumption and heats rooms quickly because the film covers a large part of the wall surface.

Reaching the desired temperature may not be instantaneous, like switching on a light, but it only takes a few seconds, explains Jani-Mikael Kuusisto from The Warming Surfaces Company.

This "on-demand heating" can also be connected to motion sensors that activate the system when someone enters the room. This way, energy is not wasted heating empty spaces while maintaining the proper temperature, which provides convenience.

When can you use the system?

The Warming Surfaces Company confirms that production is ready and that the first products will soon be available. The startup's representatives emphasize the technology's high scalability for the furniture and construction industries and its low production costs due to minimal material usage.

Cooperation with furniture and building material companies further facilitates the system's installation.
