Fighter jet error injures 29 in tragic South Korea incident

A tragic incident occurred during joint military exercises between the United States and South Korea. According to the Polish Press Agency, two KF-16 fighters mistakenly dropped eight Mk 82 bombs outside the designated training area in the town of Pocheon, about 25 miles northeast of Seoul. As a result of this incident, 29 people were injured, including 15 civilians.
According to the Yonhap news agency, citing air force sources, it is suspected that the accident was caused by an error made by one of the pilots who inputted incorrect target coordinates before the flight. The explosion of the bombs damaged civilian structures, including homes and a church.
The South Korean air force apologized for the incident and committed to compensating all those affected. The military also suspended all live ammunition exercises until the matter is clarified. An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of this tragic event.
Effects of the bombing
Reports indicated seven were initially injured, but the latest data shows 29 were affected, including 14 soldiers. Two civilians' injuries are described as serious. South Korean authorities and the Yonhap agency emphasize that the situation is being monitored and that necessary assistance is being provided to the victims.
The mayor of Pocheon, Paek Young-hyun, reported that there are as many as three military training grounds near the village where the bombs fell.
