Onions are a fantastic addition to many meals, substantially enhancing their flavor. Beyond their culinary value, onions have numerous health benefits; they serve as antibacterial agents and offer protection against heart diseases. It's widely known that those grown in your own garden taste the best. Here, we recommend home methods for protecting this valuable vegetable from pests and fungi.

With the growing recognition of the importance of environmental conservation, there's a trend towards choosing eco-friendly plant protection products. This shift positively impacts not only our natural surroundings but also our health and that of our families.

Fortunately, many effective garden protection solutions can be crafted from common kitchen ingredients. This approach not only saves money but is also better for our health. How can you prepare these beneficial mixtures to combat pests and fungi? Here are some suggestions.

Regrettably, all onion varieties are prone to a common fungus - powdery mildew. While numerous commercial products target this issue, why not explore some home remedies?

Combating Fungus in Onions: Effective Strategies

A surprisingly effective remedy involves milk. Mix milk and water at a 1:5 ratio and spray it onto your onions. Make sure to cover them thoroughly and repeat the process after ten days. This mixture is beneficial against both fungi and bacteria.

Another potent protective measure for onions is a homemade baking soda spray. To prepare it, dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in about half a gallon of water and add 5-6 ml of liquid castile soap.

Stir the solution well and apply it to the vegetables. As a preventative action, use this mixture once a week. However, if the fungus is already present, apply it every 3-4 days.

An additional effective method for combating fungi and pests involves banana peels. Dry them in the oven, crush them into a powder, and spread it around the plants before watering. This safeguards the onions from fungi and enriches them with crucial nutrients like nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus.
