Fiesta in a bowl: Mexican salad steals the show
The traditional gyros salad will quickly take a backseat. This Mexican salad recipe is perfect not only for special occasions. The salad bowl always returns empty to the kitchen.
When Mexican salad hits the table, forks immediately spring into action. Thanks to the addition of ground meat, it is hearty enough to replace dinner or even lunch. At parties, it always creates quite a buzz, and the next day I receive many messages asking for the recipe. It's a simple way to impress your loved ones without too much effort in the kitchen.
Mexican salad with ground meat
Colorful, delicious, and satisfying - this salad definitely stands out. It delights with its taste and is rich in flavor. At home, I always serve it with nachos.
The spices give the meat a distinct flavor. You can adjust the intensity to your liking, and I often add a bit more hot pepper. You can also include a hot pepper if you enjoy some extra heat. However, to ensure it doesn't become too intense, a sauce made with sour cream and garlic balances the whole dish.
Ingredients:
- 1.1 lbs ground meat (preferably beef)
- Half a teaspoon of hot pepper (or more)
- 1 teaspoon of sweet paprika
- Half a teaspoon of cumin
- Half a teaspoon of granulated garlic
- Half a teaspoon of oregano
- A pinch of chili
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 can of red beans
- 1 can of corn
- 1 red onion
- 1 red bell pepper
- 1 green bell pepper
- 2-3 tomatoes
- 3.5 oz grated Cheddar cheese
- 1 head of iceberg lettuce
- Oil for frying
- Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish
- Tortilla chips for serving
Sauce:
- 3/4 cup thick sour cream
- 2 flat tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1-2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 garlic clove
- A pinch of chili
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation Method:
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add the ground meat and spices, and fry until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula. If the mixture is too dry, you can add 2-3 tablespoons of water and simmer until it evaporates.
- Set aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, combine the chopped lettuce, diced onion, tomatoes, and bell peppers.
- Add the drained corn and beans.
- Add the fried meat and mix together.
- Sprinkle with grated cheese.
- Mix the sour cream with mayonnaise, lime juice, hot pepper, and garlic.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Drizzle the salad with the sauce and garnish with cilantro.
You can also serve the sauce separately, allowing everyone to add the right amount directly to their plate. Serve the dish with nachos. Enjoy!
