FBI reports Trump safe after assassination attempt in Pennsylvania
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reported on Sunday that 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, a resident of Pennsylvania, was a "person involved" in the failed assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump. Crooks died at the scene.
Donald Trump was shot in the ear on Saturday during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Two people were killed, including the assailant, and two others were seriously injured. The condition of the Republican candidate is reported as good.
According to the FBI, Crooks lived in Bethel Park, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Washington Post reports, citing voter registration records in the state, that Crooks was a registered voter for the Republican Party. According to the AP agency, campaign finance reports show that on January 20, 2021, the day of Joe Biden's inauguration as President of the United States, Crooks donated $15 to a political action committee (PAC) supporting the Democratic Party.
Bloomberg reminds us that Saturday's assassination attempt on Donald Trump is another act of political violence in the United States. Trump was previously targeted in an assassination attempt in 2016. In U.S. history, several presidents have been assassinated.
