Fast as a jet. This underwater train will connect two countries

A train speeding along the ocean floor at a speed comparable to a jet plane. This is not an idea from a science fiction novel, but an actual plan to be implemented in the United Arab Emirates.

This concept was presented by the National Bureau of Advisors in the United Arab Emirates. A line over 1,243 miles long is intended to connect this Middle Eastern power with India, specifically: Dubai with Mumbai.

Underwater train fast as a jet

The underwater train, which could move at speeds of approximately 372 or even 621 mph, is initially intended for freight transport. This line could be used to transport crude oil, for example. However, as UNILAD reports, it’s ultimately also intended for passenger transport - and the journey is expected to take less time than flying.

The idea is not entirely new. It first appeared back in 2018, but at the time there were no feasible plans accompanying it. This time it's different, and the United Arab Emirates is a country that is not afraid of architectural and technological challenges, which increases the probability of accomplishing this task.

Like under the English Channel, only more so

It's also worth remembering that this would not be the first underwater train. In fact, such a line has been in operation since 1994 - in a tunnel under the English Channel, connecting France and the United Kingdom. However, the United Arab Emirates project is decidedly more ambitious: the tunnel between Dubai and Mumbai is expected to be 50 times longer, and the speed developed - ten times greater.

The path to achieving this goal is long, however. In any case, the National Bureau of Advisors is considering it and is soon to apply for the creation of a feasibility report. The ideal solution would be to launch the line by 2030, but it remains difficult to judge the chances at this time.
