This element in the Marvel hit threw fans off track. After years, the studio admitted that it was an unintended mistake, which however strongly messed up the chronology of the universe. What scene and from which movie exactly are they talking about?

It took six years after the premiere of Marvel's hit for the studio to finally admit to a mistake, dispelling the doubts of the most fervent fans. It turns out that in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" a minor error appeared, which could have confused viewers. What element is it about and what significance does it have for the coherence of the entire MCU world?

What disrupted the chronology in the MCU?

The cause of the problems is the movie "Spider-Man: Homecoming" by Jon Watts, and specifically one scene from the screenplay by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. This is about a flashback, during which Adrian Toomes/Vulture and his company's employees, right after the ended battle (shown in "The Avengers"), are cleaning up New York from the technology left there.

According to the official canon, these events took place in 2012. However, the action in "Homecoming" is transferred to the present, which is indicated by the caption on the screen; a large part of the movie takes place 8 years later. In reality, the film with Tom Holland talks about events that took place 4 years after the battle for an American city, so in fall 2016.

Official statement from Marvel

The studio authorities only addressed this apparent error now in the recently published book "Marvel Studios' The Marvel Cinematic Universe – An Official Timeline". By the way, it's a real treat for fans of the studio's productions; this guide is meant to help fans connect the dots and truly understand the complex connections between various movies and TV shows.

In the aforementioned position about Miss Minutes, confirms that there was a certain misunderstanding. "Red alert! Welcome back! Adrian Toomes says that the Battle of New York took place 8 years ago, but this event occurred only 4 years earlier. This whole situation really makes us think - we believe that the analyst somewhere lost the case file" - says the character.

More observant viewers probably also noticed that in the discussed "Homecoming" sequence, Toomes is holding a drawing of the Battle of New York made by his daughter. The childish-looking piece of work effectively contradicts the official MCU timeline, according to which Liz would have been around 13 years old at the time.
