Famous L.A. neighborhoods scorched as wildfires displace stars
Anthony Hopkins, John Goodman, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Paris Hilton are some actors and celebrities who have lived in Pacific Palisades or other Los Angeles neighborhoods. Their properties—like hundreds of other homes—were completely destroyed by the fires raging since Tuesday.
In fire-engulfed Los Angeles, people fled from smoke-filled canyons and picturesque districts where many stars reside. Homes belonging to Billy Crystal, Mandy Moore, Cary Elwes, and Paris Hilton were lost.
Many people were evacuated from Pacific Palisades, as well as from Santa Monica and Altadena.
"Janice and I have lived in our home since 1979. We raised our children and grandchildren here," Billy Crystal said. "Every inch of our home was filled with love. Those beautiful memories cannot be taken from us. Of course, we are devastated, but we will manage with the love of our children and friends. Pacific Palisades is a resilient community of incredible people, and we know it will rise again with time. It's our home," the actor wrote.
The element destroys Los Angeles. Thousands evacuated
According to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, CNN reported that about 70,000 people have been given warnings or evacuation orders due to the Eaton fire, and approximately 60,000 people in connection with the Palisades fire.
Among the hundreds, if not thousands, of destroyed homes are properties of well-known artists and celebrities.
According to media reports, properties were also lost by Anthony Hopkins, Eugene Levy, Ricki Lake, Mandy Moore, and Adam Brody.
Chet Hanks, son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, also posted about his family neighborhood burning in the fire.
After TMZ reported that Paris Hilton's residence in Malibu burned down, the celebrity posted on social media.
"The heart breaks indescribably. Watching the news on TV with family and footage of our home in Malibu burning is something nobody should ever experience," she wrote on Instagram.
"We were supposed to grow old there"
"Everything is gone. I can't believe I'm writing these words. It was our paradise on earth. We were supposed to grow old there," wrote Ricki Lake, actress and talk show host.
Actor James Woods began posting videos showing the approaching fires quite early on Tuesday morning, after which he said he "left" the area because the homes around him began to burn.
"I couldn't believe our lovely little house on the hills lasted as long as it did. It's like losing a loved one. It tests your soul, losing everything at once," he wrote.
Casualties increase. Biden cancels trip to Italy
As a result of the fires raging in the Los Angeles area in California, at least five people have died, and nearly 2,000 properties have been destroyed. The number of evacuated residents has risen to over 130,000. Due to the disaster, U.S. President Joe Biden canceled his trip to Italy, and the announcement of the Oscar nominations was postponed.
