The horrifying incident took place on Friday, November 10th in the town of Port Noarlunga, situated approximately 19 miles southwest of central Adelaide.

The shark bit the woman, who had recently leaped into the water from the pier, on her head. The unsettling event occurred at 9:50 PM Eastern Time.

The injured woman was swiftly taken to an Adelaide hospital where she received the necessary medical treatment. An ambulance service spokesperson mentioned that although her injuries were "serious," they were not life-threatening.

Eyewitnesses share their experiences of the incident

Immediately following the attack, shocked and frightened witnesses were ushered out of the water by police and other rescue services.

"Everyone panicked," shared Eric Tink, a beachgoer at the time of the incident.

"I've never seen anything like this here, and I've lived here my entire life," remarked another man.

A thorough search for the shark was initiated in the area post attack, yet the animal remains elusive. People were permitted back into the water after the immediate threat subsided.

In the wake of other tragic incidents

This event has caused grave concern among the local community due to its occurring fairly soon after a series of shark attacks.

The public broadcaster, ABC News, reported that a tragic shark attack occurred two weeks prior to this incident, taking the life of a 55-year-old surfer near Streaky Bay in South Australia. Unfortunately, the victim's body has still not been recovered. This marks it as the second fatal incident of its kind on the Eyre Peninsula within the year.
