Extraordinary birth of a white bison captivates America: How Wyoming Hope became a national sensation
A white bison has been born in Wyoming State Park. Currently, the gender of the baby bison, dubbed Wyoming Hope, is yet to be determined due to the thick fur covering the newborn.
We're not sure if it's a bull or heifer. They're covered with thick fur, which makes it difficult to determine immediately, said Tyfani Sager, the chief inspector of the park (Cowboy State Daily).
As reported by the American newspaper Cowboy State Daily, Wyoming Hope was born in Bear River State Park at around 6:30 local time, weighing 30 pounds at birth.
According to the account provided by the Park's Chief Inspector, Wyoming Hope might be considered small for a bison but is in good health. Since the official announcement of the birth, Bear River State Park has experienced a surge in tourist visitors.
White bison are extraordinary not only for their rarity. Some communities of indigenous inhabitants of North America deem them sacred. According to scientific research, such rare coloration is due to a limited pool of cattle genes.
Wyoming Hope is not the only pure white bison in the United States. In 2021, two albino heifers from Jackson Fork Ranch in Bondurant, Wyoming, were brought to Bear River State Park.
However, the second female bison isn't expected to give birth before spring 2024.
