European Council's Costa: 'No concessions' in Ukraine talks
Antonio Costa, the President of the European Council, believes that making concessions before peace negotiations concerning Ukraine is unacceptable. This was the latest position he conveyed during the Munich Security Conference.
Before the attendees gathered at the Bayerischer Hof hotel in Munich, President Costa spoke on Saturday. He emphasized that concessions before peace negotiations regarding Ukraine are not acceptable.
Costa stressed that only Ukraine can determine when the conditions are right for talks with Russia. He added, "Therefore we will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine."
Costa: The Russian threat extends beyond Ukraine
Costa pointed out that the threat from Russia is not limited to Ukraine alone. Russia influences Belarus, has military presence in Moldova and Georgia, and also poses a threat to the Baltic states and the eastern border of the European Union.
"Comprehensive peace cannot be a simple ceasefire," emphasized Costa. The President of the European Council highlighted that peace must ensure that Russia is no longer a threat to any country.
The politician made an important declaration, assuring that the European Union will fully assume responsibility for building this peace. He added that defense will be a priority, and the European Commission is set to present proposals for joint defense financing by the EU.
