Escape to Lihou: Rent your private island for $49 a night
Many people dream of having their island. If you are not a millionaire, you can make this dream come true for at least a few days. Off the coast of Europe, there is such an islet, with only one house that can be rented along with the entire surrounding land. Although there is no internet or stores, there is fantastic nature and history.
The dream of staying on a private island can become a reality thanks to Lihou Island, located off Guernsey's western coast, in the English Channel's western part, where it meets the Celtic Sea.
For only 40 pounds per night (approximately $49), you can rent the only house on this deserted island, managed by the Lihou Charitable Trust.
A unique experience on Lihou Island
Once, the industry of seaweed harvesting flourished on Lihou Island, but today, it remains uninhabited. Access to it is only possible via a stony road during low tide, making it ideal for adventure seekers. The abundance of nature and picturesque views compensates the lack of internet and stores.
Attractions and challenges
On the island, you can explore the ruins of an ancient monastery and natural rock formations visible during low tide, such as Venus Pool (Bsen Wenus). The pool is 134 feet long and 16 feet wide and is ideal for swimming in water about 8 feet deep.
Lihou Island is also a paradise for birdwatchers, as it offers a refuge to many rare, migratory species.
Prepare for an adventure
A stay on Lihou requires some preparation. Guests must transport their luggage over a steep road and manage without amenities like the Internet or food delivery services. However, this is an excellent opportunity to disconnect from civilization and enjoy nature.
The perfect place for groups
Lihou House can accommodate about 10 people, making it an ideal spot for group trips. For only 40 pounds per person, you can experience life on an island offering more than just luxurious amenities. It's a unique place that allows you to take a break from everyday life and immerse yourself in the beauty of nature.
