Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has once again called for a reform of the United Nations Security Council. His appeal comes in relation to the US veto on the adoption of a resolution, which could have led to a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Erdoğan believes that the UN Security Council's mission of global peacekeeping has been compromised, accusing it of becoming a defender of Israel.

The UN Security Council resolution was aimed at an immediate cessation of war activities in the Gaza Strip.

Erdogan criticizes US veto

During a speech delivered in Istanbul, Erdoğan criticized the United States' decision, highlighting that the veto prevented any resolution from being passed. He argued that this situation necessitates a reform of the UN Security Council. The Turkish president expressed his disappointment with the Council's actions, arguing that he has lost hope and expectations in this body.

Erdoğan referenced the events of October 7th, during which Hamas of Palestine initiated conflict with Israel in the Gaza Strip. Erdoğan claims that the United Nations Security Council, whose mission is supposed to be global peacekeeping, has instead become a defender of Israel. He regarded this action as being inconsistent with the Council's mission.

Erdoğan on Netanyahu: "Butcher of Gaza"

The Turkish president openly expressed his disappointment with Israel's actions. Previously, he accused the country of committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, even going as far as naming the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the "butcher of Gaza".

Erdoğan has announced his intentions to hold accountable those he believes are responsible for crimes in the Palestinian semi-enclave. To support these allegations, a group of Turkish lawyers has provided the International Criminal Court in The Hague with evidence.
