Elon Musk stirs debate after visiting Auschwitz with toddler son during Poland trip

The owner of Tesla and the X platform, Elon Musk, landed in Krakow on Monday. From there, he visited the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oswiecim. His visit was private and included participating in ceremonies for International Holocaust Remembrance Day and a conference on anti-Semitism organized by the European Jewish Association (EJA).

A photo surfaced online showing Musk with his youngest son. Internet users noted that the visit to the museum could potentially be traumatic for the young child.

The discussion began with Associate Professor Michał Bilewicz from the University of Warsaw. He expressed concern on social media, asking, "Shouldn't a guest who brings a toddler to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum at least be advised? Where were the museum guides?"

Opinions among commentators were split. Some agreed with the professor, while others believed that the decision to bring a child to such a place should be left to the parents.

"The decision to visit is solely up to the parent"

According to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum website's "basic information" tab, "The Museum does not advise visits for children under the age of 14."

The Museum's spokesperson discussed the controversy with the Onet portal, stating, "The museum does not advise visits for children under 14. However, the decision to tour is solely up to the parent or guardian.

Usually, guides alert adults to the unique nature of the location and the possibility that the visit might be difficult for young people. Such a conversation did occur during this visit," according to Bartosz Bartyzel.
