Elon Musk backs AfD, stirs German political landscape
Billionaire Elon Musk once again entered the German election campaign and endorsed the right-wing populist party, Alternative for Germany (AfD). During the official campaign launch of the party in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, he appeared online from the USA.
- I think you're really the best hope for Germany - said the advisor to US President Donald Trump and head of Tesla on Saturday. - I'm very excited for the AfD, I think you're really the best hope for Germany... fight for a great future for Germany - Musk urged, receiving a standing ovation from AfD supporters.
It's good to be proud of German culture, German values, and not to lose that in some sort of multiculturalism that dilutes everything, quoted by the magazine "Stern" portal. He noted that "German culture" is "thousands of years old" because even the Roman general Julius Caesar was "impressed" by the fighting spirit of the Germanic tribes.
According to him, the current German government is apparently not interested in the health and prosperity of the German nation. Instead, the government "is aggressively suppressing free speech" - Musk assessed. - AfD must therefore "fight, fight, fight," especially "for more self-determination for Germany and the countries of Europe and less for Brussels" - he added.
After Musk's appearance, the leader of the AfD and the party's candidate for chancellor, Alice Weidel, said:
People, did you hear that? Americans are making their country great again, and we are making ours great again. Make Germany great again! - reports the "Bild" daily portal.
- I am very happy and proud to lead this party in the election campaign, - Weidel said. - Let's make AfD great, because only AfD can save Germany, - she called.
Musk: Only AfD can save Germany
Musk had previously endorsed AfD by writing on platform X that only this party can save Germany. He also talked live with Weidel on X. Critics accuse him of using his vast reach on this platform to influence the outcome of the federal elections in Germany.
The parliamentary elections in Germany will take place on February 23. In polls, AfD is in second place behind the CDU/CSU conservatives.
