Last weekend was a celebration for Ipswich Town players and fans alike. The team clinched a 2:0 victory over Huddersfield in the final match of the Championship season, securing second place in the standings and a direct promotion to the Premier League. This marks Ipswich's return to the top tier for the first time in over 20 years, having last competed at this level during the 2001/2002 season.

Ed Sheeran, the club's most illustrious fan, has been closely intertwined with Ipswich, becoming its sponsor and an honorary player in 2021. Over recent seasons, he has used the players' jerseys as a canvas to promote his albums and tours. Despite missing the initial celebrations due to attending the Met Gala, Sheeran made amends by joining the team a few days later.

Sheeran joined the Ipswich players' celebration on Wednesday, May 8. The 33-year-old singer shared multiple short videos on his X service profile, showcasing him playing guitar and singing one of his hits, with Ipswich players enthusiastically joining in. It's evident from the videos that Sheeran thoroughly enjoyed himself, frequently embracing the players around him.

The videos of Sheeran’s participation quickly gained traction on social media, drawing the attention of several hundred thousand fans. Many expressed delight in seeing the star's strong connection with his beloved club.

Leicester City also secured its place in the Premier League alongside Ipswich Town. The final spot will be determined through playoffs among Leeds United, Southampton, West Brom, and Norwich City, who finished third to sixth, respectively.
