The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings for 70 million residents along the eastern coast of the USA. Snowstorms and severe freezing temperatures threaten New York City, Philadelphia, and Boston. The warnings are in effect for the Mid-Atlantic region and New England.
Up to 10 inches of snow may accumulate by Monday morning in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, and Connecticut, as much as 35 inches along Lake Ontario. After the snowfall, low temperatures and strong winds are expected, further complicating road conditions.
Winter storm in the USA: Disruptions at airports
The AP agency reports that weather conditions are already disrupting air travel in the New York area. Almost 130 flights have been canceled, and more are delayed. Difficulties have also affected travelers in Washington and Boston.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has urged residents to use public transportation to ease the burden on snow-clearing services. He also recommended helping neighbors who may face heating or frozen pipeline issues.
Roads will remain hazardous by Monday morning, especially along the I-95 highway corridor from Washington to New York City. Residents should exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.
