Duchess Kate's heartfelt letter: Love and hope in tough times
A post appeared on the Instagram profile of Kate Middleton and Prince William regarding this year's Christmas carol concert. The Duchess sent a special letter to guests in which she writes about "the most difficult times."
In March, Kate Middleton unexpectedly revealed that she is battling cancer. In the following months, the Duchess did not appear in public, focusing on treatment. However, in June she slowly began to return to her duties. She attended events such as Trooping the Colour and the Wimbledon final. Last month, she participated in Remembrance Day.

On Saturday, a new post by Middleton appeared on the Instagram profile of Duchess Kate and Prince William. The 42-year-old informed followers about what she has prepared for the guests of this year's Christmas carol concert.
A special letter, reflecting on the importance of love, empathy and how much we need one another in the most difficult times. This will be given to each of the guests at the Together at Christmas Carol Service at Westminster Abbey and the fifteen Community Carol Services across the country, thanking those attending for all they do for others - she wrote, accompanying the post with a fragment of the letter.
The "Daily Mail" indicates that this is the first time Kate is writing to attendees of the service at Westminster Abbey. Among the guests of the event will be six-time Olympic gold medalist Sir Chris Hoy, who is battling incurable cancer, "Downton Abbey" star Michelle Dockery, whose fiancé died of brain cancer, and children who survived the July knife attack in Southport.
The tabloid also quotes extracts from the Duchess's letter. William's wife urges everyone to live "with an open heart" and offer help to those in need through "gentle words, or a receptive ear, an arm around an exhausted shoulder, or silently being by someone’s side." In Middleton's appeal, one can't help but see references to her own struggles with illness.
Christmas is one of my favourite times of the year. It is a time for celebration and joy, but it also gives us the opportunity to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all. It is when we stop and take ourselves away from the pressures of daily life, that we find the space to live our lives with an open heart, with love, kindness and forgiveness — so much of what the Christmas spirit is all about. It is this love which is the greatest gift we can receive. Not just at Christmas, but every day of our lives - writes Kate.
She added that the royal family's problems reminded her and William to "reflect our own vulnerabilities and reminds us of the importance of giving and receiving empathy."
Love unites and strengthens us all - she appeals.
