Dua Lipa interviews Olga Tokarczuk. She complimented the Nobel laureate
Dua Lipa remotely connected with Olga Tokarczuk to conduct an interview with her. The conversation focused on the book Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead. The singer expressed deep respect and admiration for the writer’s work.
Dua Lipa is currently one of the most influential figures in international pop music. Until now, not many people knew about her fascination with literature, including the works of Polish authors. She has a particular appreciation for the work of Nobel laureate Olga Tokarczuk, especially her 2009 novel Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead.
"It’s deadly serious yet full of dark humor and unconventional characters that will stay with you forever. It’s unmissable. The author was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. When you read this novel, you’ll understand why," she recommended to readers as part of her Service95 reading corner, which she has been running for several years.
Now the singer has decided to dedicate a special interview to the book. To do this, she connected with its author, again demonstrating her great admiration for her literary works.
Dua Lipa showered Olga Tokarczuk with compliments
As part of her monthly "recommendations," the pop star drew the attention of hundreds of thousands of fans to the thriller written by the Polish author. She admitted that the book’s unique title immediately encouraged her to read it.
"I’m a big fan of hers. My friend works for your publisher in the UK and gave me a stack of books to read. When I saw the title, I was intrigued from the moment I picked it up," said Dua Lipa.
Olga Tokarczuk shared the challenges of selecting a title for her novel. She mentioned that the publisher initially had concerns about releasing a book with such an unconventional and long title. Her inspiration for the title came from a poem by one of her favorite authors, William Blake.
It’s worth noting that Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead has also been recognized by many other figures in the cultural world. Actor Pedro Pascal was spotted reading the novel during a holiday break at the beach, which didn’t escape the notice of Instagram users. In 2022, Natalie Portman, who, like Dua Lipa, shares her reading recommendations, wrote online, "Loving the way this fablelike Polish novel blends mystery, dark comedy, politics, and philosophy." The Oscar winner also had the chance to have a virtual conversation with her.
