Located about 25 miles from Moscow's center, Domodedovo witnessed the shooting down of two kamikaze drones overnight from Saturday to Sunday, as reported by official Kremlin agencies. Another drone was reported shot down around 4 a.m. Eastern Time on Sunday.
One of the drones that was shot down at night fell onto an airport warehouse's territory, igniting a small fire. The second crashed in one of the parking lots.
Ukrainian sources suggest that the drones' likely target was not the airport but a nearby refinery.
Due to the drone attacks, three Moscow airports – Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky – introduced flight restrictions on Sunday, as reported by Reuters, citing Rosaviatsiya, the Russian aviation transport agency. The restrictions were lifted a few hours later.
Ukrainian drone attacks during the night from Saturday to Sunday were also reported by authorities in several Russian regions. The Russian Ministry of Defence announced that across eight regions of the country, 35 Ukrainian drones were destroyed.
