Drake honors fan who overcame cancer
Drake, along with J. Cole and Lil Durk, are currently on a North American tour titled "It’s All a Blur - Big as the What?”. This tour spotlights albums "Her Loss" from 2022 and "For All the Dogs" from 2023. Beginning in Chicago last year and scheduled to conclude this March in Alabama, this event marks Drake's first tour on the continent in five years.
During a concert at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on February 7, Drake noticed a poster that deeply moved him. The poster read "I just finished chemotherapy". The rapper requested the poster and the fan be spotlighted on the available jumbotron screens. The crowd erupted in cheers and applause for the brave woman.
Addressing the crowd, Drake said: "forget about Drake, forget about anyone else in this building now. This is a real soldier, right here". To honor her determination and hard-fought battle against illness, he decided to gift her 100,000 dollars. "I hope my manager doesn't kill me, because I really don't do this often. I'd like to give you this money at the end of the night. We'll give you 100,000 dollars. I love you and wish you the best", Drake told the fan.
The fan, named Lauren Schwallie, had been battling breast cancer since March of 2022. Following the concert in Nashville, she expressed her disbelief about the experience on her Instagram, saying that she was still in shock. In her recount, she shares: "I found myself at the front of the stage. Drake blew me a kiss and told me he loves me. That was all I had focused on, and then there was the money. It was simply insane."
This was not Drake's first act of generosity
This was not the first time Drake has gifted an audience member a sum of money. In a concert last September, Drake gifted a fan 50,000 dollars after the fan shared through a poster that he had been dumped by his girlfriend. In an act of consolation, Drake gave the heartbroken fan the money, saying, "she'll feel really sh*tty because I'm giving you 50,000 dollars so you can flex on her with it".
