The Update that Drains Your Battery

With the roll-out of the iOS 17.1.1 update, a significant drop in battery life has been an unfortunate experience reported by many users. The devices now work for just a few hours with the screen on, and as a result, Apple's support system has been inundated with complaints. The good news is that altering a few settings on your phone can rectify this issue.

The helpful hint comes to us courtesy of a TikTok video by @T_Sply, where he explains how one simple setting change can help your phone function longer without needing to be charged. Simply go to the settings on your phone, click on "accessibility", and then "display & text size".

Look for the "reduce white point" option at the bottom of the page. Once you locate it, move the slider to 100%. This reduces the brightness of the screen as well as battery usage. The downside to this trick is that the screen may appear too dark during sunny days. This can be beneficial at night, however, reducing the strain on our eyes.

Impacts of Blue Light on Sleep

The standard advice of refraining from watching TV or using the internet before bed comes with valid reasoning. Exposure to blue light interferes with the production of melatonin. You may feel tired as you head to bed but find falling asleep more difficult than expected. Oddly, despite getting adequate sleep, you may still feel tired upon waking up in the morning.

If you've been struggling with falling asleep recently, consider improving your sleep hygiene. About an hour before bed, put away all electronic devices and relax, such as reading a book, bathing, or chatting with a partner. Giving your body time to unwind and allowing melatonin to work its magic is essential. You should notice a significant difference from the first night. By making it a habit, you can attain uninterrupted sleep and wake up refreshed.
