According to the Associated Press, after the January 6 Capitol Attack, more than 1,230 people engaged in the riots were charged with federal crimes. About 750 people have been sentenced, and almost two-thirds of them have prison sentences.
Former President Donald Trump also had legal problems related to the riots in the Capitol. In August 2023, he was charged with conspiring to defraud the country or obstructing an official proceeding.
Now, one of the most prominent candidates in the presidential election, along with Joe Biden, announced on his Truth Social account that if elected, his first act will be to free the people taken behind bars after January 6.
"My first acts as your next President will be to Close the Border, DRILL, BABY, DRILL, and Free the January 6 Hostages being wrongfully imprisoned!" wrote Trump. He could do that, as the President can pardon sentenced people.
Donald Trump has been very active recently on Truth Social, commenting on politics in the United States and reposting media articles about himself. What is interesting is that this social media portal was created by Trump himself in 2022 through his company, Trump Media and Technology Group.
