Donald Glover takes on Brad Pitt's role in 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' reboot, paints a fresh perspective
Prime Video launched the "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" series on February 2. Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, the daughter of an American and a Japanese, have skillfully filled the lead roles. Glover admits that, during the preparatory phase, he attempted to engage Brad Pitt in a discussion about his former role but had little success.
"Brad Pitt didn't lend any significant advice," Glover admitted on Jimmy Fallon's talk show. All he received were "courteous remarks" like, "You'll undoubtedly excel." Glover assumed that Pitt "used his movie star charisma to dodge the conversation" regarding the topic.
Nevertheless, this didn't seem to distress Donald Glover, as his "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" is a loose adaptation of the 2005 movie. "For many, it will certainly be a unique experience, which, in my view, is a good thing," the actor stated. "Although you can always go back and watch the original movie, the series offers different perspectives. People are bound to be taken aback," he disclosed before the premiere.
"Mr. and Mrs. Smith" - What's the series all about?
Two strangers get hired by a spy agency, promising a covert life filled with wealth and travel. The catch? Their new identity is associated with an arranged marriage.
Within the eight-episode series, Glover and Erskine share the screen with stars like Paul Dano, Ron Perlman, Alexander Skarsgard, Parker Posey, and Wagner Moura. Donald Glover is the leading actor and the mastermind behind the entire project, in collaboration with Francesca Sloane, his co-worker from "Atlanta."
