In recent years, the concept of privacy has undergone significant changes, mainly due to pervasive surveillance, which in theory is intended to improve our security. Unfortunately, some people may use similar methods to violate our privacy. Internet users warn each other, among other things, about hangers with hidden cameras, which a peeping tom could place in a fitting room. What else do criminals use?
"The finger test" will unmask the voyeur
In places such as changing rooms or public toilets, various dangers can lurk. There have been instances where dishonest owners installed so-called two-way mirrors, which are semi-transparent. At first glance, they do not differ from the products we hang on the walls of our homes. After all, you can also see yourself in them.
Unfortunately, on the other hand, they are transparent, which allows you to see everything that is located opposite. Venetian mirrors are often used in police interrogation rooms.
One of the ways to detect a potential peeping tom is the so-called "finger test." In this case, you need to, for example, put your thumb on the mirror pane and then look closely at its reflection. If there is a gap between the end of the finger and the mirror, we can be assured of our safety.
If the reflection of a fingernail directly touches our finger, it could mean that we are dealing with a Venetian mirror. In such a case, there is no guarantee that someone is not observing us from the other side. The Venetian mirror is constructed differently than the traditional ones, hence the unusual reflection. If you don't feel safe in the changing room or bathroom - it's better to leave and notify the appropriate authorities.
Take care of your privacy in the fitting room
Voyeurs don't need to hide, so it's worth looking up. A surveillance camera unfortunately installed under the ceiling may also cover the fitting room. Remember that regulations clearly prohibit this
In justified cases, you should report to security, and if you suspect that a crime is being committed - immediately call the police.
