Vegan and vegetarian substitutes are gaining significant traction in stores. This shift isn’t solely appealing to those who shy away from meat. Increasingly, people are adopting a flexitarian diet, which involves curbing meat consumption. So, they scour stores for plant-based substitutes and try them out, often finding that these "non-meat" alternatives can taste just as good, if not superior!

The story is no different here. We assure you that this vegan lard will leave you reaching for more. It serves as the perfect snack for long, cozy evenings with family or friends.

Vegan Lard with Beans Recipe - Ingredients:

  • 28 oz canned white beans (weight including brine),
  • 2 medium onions,
  • 1 small, slightly sour apple,
  • 1 tablespoon dried marjoram,
  • Half a teaspoon of sweet paprika,
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil,
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Vegan Lard with Beans Recipe - How to prepare:

  • Heat oil in a pan. Cut the onions, add them to the hot pan, and fry on low heat. Stir occasionally to prevent burning. They should soften and gain a golden hue.
  • Grate the apple using a fine grater. Drain and rinse the beans, then move them to a bowl. Add salt and pepper before blending until smooth. Include onion, marjoram, paprika, and the grated apple. Mix and refrigerate to allow the flavours to meld.

And voila, it's ready! We recommend leaving it in the fridge for at least 4 hours for the flavors to develop. When you're ready to eat it, grab a knife and spread it on a slice of crusty bread. For TV nights, crackers or rice cakes make the perfect accompaniment. Complement the dish with pickles and a sprinkle of pumpkin seeds.
