A growing population is stepping away from conventional skincare regimes, preferring natural alternatives instead. We long for the knowledge of what exactly we are applying to our skin and face. A significant advantage of this conscious skincare approach is that you can make part of these cosmetics yourself. Learn how to create an effective face mask that will revive your skin, delivering softness, smoothness and essential hydration.

Honey: an underappreciated ingredient in cosmetics

Honey isn’t just a food item that never spoils—it's also one of the oldest known sustenance found in an Egyptian tomb, and astonishingly, it was still deemed fit for consumption. When stored correctly, honey can last on a shelf for numerous years, though we all know it’s irresistible sweet allure means it rarely has the chance to. It can be a delightful addition to your tea, coffee, sauces, or cakes. Not surprisingly, it's especially popular during the autumn-winter season.

Rich in nutritious vitamins and minerals, honey is a source of beneficial enzymes and antioxidants that can nourish not only your body but also your skin. It's widely used in the cosmetics industry– its enzymes gently strip away old epidermis, while the antioxidants help combat the aging process. Honey is a frequent choice in the formulations of many creams, and even hair conditioners, due to its property of being a natural humectant. Humectants are acclaimed for their moisturizing capabilities.

Homemade honey mask

Capitalizing on the cosmetic value of honey, you can create a homemade mask for exfoliating your skin, thus restoring its softness and imparting a radiant glow to your complexion. This mask is perfect for pampering yourself ahead of a significant event, and should be used regularly by those with dry and dehydrated skin.

Creating such a mask requires minimal effort. You'll need just three ingredients - yogurt, honey, and an unrefined oil for skin care (e.g., hemp oil, sweet almond oil, or plum oil). Combine a tablespoon each of honey and yogurt with half a teaspoon of oil. Apply the prepared blend to a clean face and leave it on for 15 minutes. Afterwards, rinse off with warm water and dab your skin gently with a cream. You'll find your skin feeling supple, adequately moisturized, and richly nourished.
