That's enough of a description, because I believe words cannot do justice to the taste of this cake. You have to— you really have to—try it. And once you do, you'll reach for this recipe again and again. I guarantee it!
Apple crumble cake with walnuts
Ingredients:
- 3 lbs juicy apples, like Ligol or Champion
- 1.5 tablespoons lemon juice
- 3.5 cups cake flour
- 3 oz walnuts
- 2 teaspoons vanilla sugar
- 4 oz confectioner's sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 pinches ground cloves
- 2 egg yolks
- 2 tablespoons 18% sour cream
- 7 oz butter
Instructions:
- Wash, peel, and dice the apples. Mix with lemon juice and sauté in a pan until soft.
- Chop the walnuts and place them in a bowl.
- Add flour, cinnamon, cloves, chopped butter, vanilla sugar, and confectioner's sugar. Mix the dry ingredients, then add the egg yolks and sour cream.
- Mix again, then knead the dough with your hands.
- Divide into two parts (one slightly larger, the other smaller), cover with plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator.
- After half an hour, take out the dough. Press the larger part into a baking paper-lined form. Evenly spread the dough to form the base. Bake for 20 minutes at 350°F.
- Remove the cake and spread the prepared apples on top.
- Cover them with the second, smaller part of the dough—crumbled.
- Place it back in the oven and bake for another 35 minutes.
- Let cool, slice, and sprinkle with confectioner's sugar on top. Enjoy!
