The end of the year is a time when fish gain popularity. Carp for Christmas Eve, herring in oil, "fish the Greek way," and fried cod are dishes inevitably associated with the upcoming season. However, it's worth trying a completely different and somewhat forgotten species. Sea bass can convince even those who have previously avoided fish. It has few bones, a unique taste, and a wealth of nutrients.

Sea bass is one of the healthiest fish

Although many fish species exist, many people stick to just a few selected ones. Unfamiliar options put some off, while others complain about poor availability. Sea bass doesn't sound particularly foreign, but not everyone will immediately be tempted by this fish, opting instead for salmon, pollock, or cod. It's worth giving it a try, as it can surprise many with its taste.

The BBC has prepared a ranking of the most nutritious foods, and sea bass ranked high, with an impressive score of 89 out of a possible 100, which clearly indicates its exceptional nutritional value.

Why is sea bass so valued? Primarily due to its richness in essential nutrients necessary for the proper functioning of our body. In its meat, you'll find high-quality protein and omega-3 fatty acids, which play a key role in heart disease prevention.

It is also a great source of vitamin D, necessary for the proper absorption of calcium and phosphorus, which translates to healthy bones and teeth. It also contains vitamin B12, crucial for the functioning of the nervous system, as well as other B vitamins that affect energy metabolism. If you add selenium, which acts as a strong antioxidant, along with phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and iron, you get a true nutrient bomb in a white fillet.

How to prepare sea bass?

Sea bass is an excellent choice for those who value delicate, white meat. It also has few bones, making it a pure pleasure to eat.

One of the most popular ways to prepare sea bass is baking. Rub the cleaned fish with salt, pepper, and lemon juice. You can add fresh herbs, garlic cloves, and pieces of butter inside. Then, wrap the fish in foil and place it in an oven preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. You can also add vegetable pieces. The baking time depends on the size of the fish, usually around 20-30 minutes. Sea bass also tastes great when fried in a pan or steamed.
