Disappointment for Agent 007 fans as famous director denies rumors

The Bond films represent a uniquely self-contained thematic universe that causes a stir with every whisper of a sequel. Who will direct? Who will be the newest Bond girl, and will she live up to the legacy of her stunning predecessors? What will the storyline entail? Might we finally see a woman or a non-white actor filling the shoes of the special agent, reflecting the increasing gender and racial diversity of the industry (as noted in "Ocean's 8" or the all-female "Ghostbusters")? These age-old questions continue to proliferate.
Nolan Expresses Interest But Confirms He Cannot Direct
As of October this year, there were rumblings that Nolan was in advanced discussions with the film's producer and rights owner, Barbara Broccoli. Speculation suggested that the creator of "Tenet" would direct two or even three Bond films, but without Daniel Craig reprising his role as the British spy.
Fan expectations were heightened with rumors that the new editions would hark back to the cinematic tradition of the 1960s and portray the Cold War era realistically. However, any such hopes were dashed when Nolan denied the rumors during an interview with the "Associated Press".

Bond is One of Nolan's Favorite Series
Despite the denials, Nolan has been candid about his desire to helm a Bond film. In an interview with "The Hollywood Reporter" earlier this year on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast, the "Dunkirk" director admitted, "The impact of the Bond series on my work is entirely evident. I cannot deny that. I am a big fan of these movies. Having the opportunity to direct even one would be an honor." - revealed Nolan.
He also referenced the possibility of undertaking the direction of a Bond adventure with a sense of trepidation. From his statements, it's clear he deems the series exceptionally special, warranting maximum preparation in order to do it justice - that he wishes to undertake such a monumental task when he feels the timing is right from a creative standpoint. He fears the idea that he might "tackle a project of this magnitude and then not do it justice."
