The latest Marvel film, "Marvels," premiered on November 10, 2023. The 'after-credits' scene sparked a dispute between director Nia DaCosta and Studio President Kevin Feige. Note: this text contains spoilers.

The powers of Carol Danvers (played by Brie Larson) mingles with the abilities of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) in "Marvels". They must collaborate to save the universe. Directed by Nia DaCosta of "Candyman" fame, the film has received lukewarm reviews. Its box-office earnings have not been impressive either. Despite more than two weeks since the premiere, the film has made only $187 million, with $77 million coming from the U.S. Groses. Brie Larson, the biggest star of the production, was reportedly disappointed with her role before the movie hit the screens on November 10.

The 'after-credits' scene in 'Marvels'

"Marvels" features a customary scene after the credits. In the concluding sequence, Monica wakes up in a clinic, finding a woman resembling her mother by her bedside. Monica expresses how much she has missed her, but the woman appears surprised by this revelation.

A doctor enters the room and inquires about Monica's health from her 'mother.' When the camera pans to him, we realize this is not just any doctor, but Dr. Hank McCoy from the "X-Men" series. He suggests that Monica might have traveled from a parallel dimension, alerts the mother that Charles Xavier awaits an update, and exits the room. Monica's mother then questions who she really is, and Monica starts to grasp the reality.

Could more characters have saved 'Marvels'?

The characters mentioned are from the well-known "X-Men" series. Rumor has it that Nia DaCosta wanted to include even more characters but did not share who she had in mind. This reportedly led to a disagreement with Studio Marvel's president, Kevin Feige.

DaCosta confessed in an interview published on X, "I really was pushing so much X-Men. He was like, 'we have to just be very calm about this and be measured adults,' which is why he's the boss, you know what I mean?".

Future Marvel Productions

Fans will have to wait quite a while for new films from the studio due to the recent end of Hollywood’s actors and writers strikes. The closest release is "Deadpool," scheduled for the end of July. Expect four titles in 2025: "Captain America: Brave New World," "Fantastic Four," "Thunderbolts," and "Blade".

Over the next two years, keep an eye out for "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty", under a cloud due to legal issues involving key actor Jonathan Majors, and "Avengers: Secret Wars." Both films will be directed by Michael Waldron.

You can still catch Nia DaCosta's "Marvels" in cinemas.
