Making the British archipelago more accessible
These new flights will be operated by Loganair and will run twice a week - on Tuesdays and Fridays. The planes will depart from London City Airport, which is the fifth largest airport serving London.
The flight will take approximately 3.5 hours. There will be a stopover in Dundee, on the east coast of Scotland, but passengers will not need to disembark during this time. Flight prices will start from 60 pounds ($79).
At the moment, you can also fly to the Orkney Islands from Edinburgh.
"We are delighted to increase the accessibility of the Orkney Islands as part of our summer 2023 flight schedule," says Luke Lovegrove, the head of Loganair, as quoted by "The Sun". "The new connection with London City, along with increased connections with Edinburgh, will not only enhance the lives of the local community but it will also encourage tourists from all over the United Kingdom and further afield to visit the Orkney Islands.
Orkney - a nature wonderland
As highlighted by "The Sun", the Orkney Islands were recently recognized as one of the top places to visit in 2023 by "Time Out" magazine.
The archipelago is made up of 70 islands and islets, 20 of which are populated. They mesmerize visitors with their exquisite white-sand beaches and turquoise waters. In addition, tourists will surely be captivated by the stunning cliff coastline and some of the oldest Neolithic relics in Europe, including the stone circle Ring of Brodgar and Maes Howe's tomb.
The Orkney Islands also offer a unique experience for animal lovers. Here, you can admire orcas and puffins in their natural habitat.
