In just eight hours, the region received rainfall equivalent to the amount typically recorded over an entire year. This led to flooding in cities, destruction of buildings and bridges, and vehicles being overturned in the streets. Among the disaster's victims was Jose Castillejo, a former player for Valencia, Paterna, CD Buñol, Recam Catalonia, and Torre Levante. Valencia issued a statement confirming that the player, who once played for their youth teams, lost his life due to the disaster.
The Eldense club, where Castillejo played between January and August 2016, also expressed condolences, sharing sorrow over the passing of the former player and extending sympathy to his family and friends.
Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, underscored the severity of the situation, warning residents that the crisis is not over yet, as many people remain without access to water and electricity. Numerous individuals have been stranded due to destroyed vehicles or blocked roads.
