The fire broke out in the town of Afumati, near Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

According to Romanian civil defense, despite the quick intervention of the fire brigade, one of the warehouses involved in the fire was almost completely destroyed, and most of its structure collapsed.

Rescue teams reporting from the scene emphasized that the fire spread very quickly across the area, which contains warehouses. They pointed to the high risk of the fire spreading to other warehouses as well as residential buildings.

The fight against the fire is hampered by the intense smoke rising from the scene of the tragic incident.

"Initially, 10 fire units were dispatched to the scene, but due to the large force of this fire, further interventions were necessary," Romanian services reported.

Large fire near Bucharest

The fight against the fire in Afumati is Tuesday's second large-scale fire in the Bucharest area. In the afternoon, a residential building caught fire in one of the blocks in the city's third sector of the Romanian capital, in the west. According to Bucharest's rescue services, at least two people died in the tragic incident.

There is currently no information about the cause of the fire. The services have also not provided any information regarding other potential casualties.
