Denmark courts Trump for Greenland security talks
The Axios portal reports that Denmark is contacting Donald Trump's team to discuss collaborative efforts to enhance Greenland's security. The U.S. President-elect is contemplating taking control of the island.
According to Axios, members of the Danish government have privately contacted Donald Trump's team recently to discuss issues related to Greenland's security.
Axios indicates that two scenarios are being considered: joint Danish-American ventures or an increased American military presence on the island.
The portal cites two anonymous sources confirming this information.
Trump and his plans for Greenland
Trump, who will become President of the USA on January 20 (Eastern Time), has recently suggested that his administration may pursue taking over Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark. The President-elect has not ruled out using military or economic means to achieve this goal.
An island rich in resources
Due to its strategic location in the Arctic, Greenland is attracting international interest. Its territory can be utilized to track missiles launched toward the United States, potentially by countries like Russia. Located in the northwestern part of the island is the American Pituffik space base.
Climate change and melting glaciers are enhancing Greenland's economic significance. The island's rich deposits of oil, natural gas, and rare earth metals make it an appealing target for many nations.
