In Mexico, two tragic bus accidents resulted in 32 deaths and several dozen injuries. The accidents occurred in the states of Durango and Oaxaca.
Last Monday there were two significant accidents in Mexico involving buses, claiming the lives of 32 people. Local authorities reported that in the state of Durango in the north of the country, a bus collided with a truck, resulting in the deaths of 14 people. The vehicle had come from McAllen, Texas, where many Mexicans work. Approximately 10 people were injured in the collision. The causes of the accident have not yet been made public.
Earlier the same day, in the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico, a bus overturned on the highway, causing the deaths of 18 people. The state governor, Salomon Jara Cruz, announced this on the X platform. Initially, the number of victims was estimated at 11, with around 30 injured. State authorities announced an investigation to determine the causes of this tragedy.
According to media reports, the bus passengers were supporters of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) party, returning from a rally for President Claudia Sheinbaum in Mexico City.
Frequent accidents on Mexican roads
According to the AFP, traffic accidents are frequent in Mexico. Experts attribute this primarily to two factors: speeding and the deplorable condition of many roads.
It is estimated that each year, at least 15,000 people die in road accidents in Mexico.
