You don't mess with Machete. Danny Trejo is a well-known actor, producer, and, in recent years, a restaurateur. He leverages the popularity gained from his appearances in Robert Rodriguez films, including "Desperado," "From Dusk Till Dawn," and "Once Upon a Time in Mexico." Three new productions featuring Trejo are in the works, including a new installment of the famous Machete role ("Machete Kills in Space"). Unfortunately, the actor reminded people of himself in an unpleasant manner.
Danny Trejo participated in a public brawl
On July 4th, Trejo participated in the Sunland-Tujunga Independence Day parade in California. The actor arrived in his vintage car. At some point, someone threw a water balloon at him. Trejo and his companions got angry, got out of the car, and went to find the "attacker." Then someone threw another water balloon that hit the actor. This led to a scuffle. A video of the incident made its way online.
The video shows Trejo attempting to hit one of the men but missing. Amid the chaos, he grabs a chair and throws it into the crowd. Someone continually tries to keep Trejo from fully engaging in the fight. First, his friends try to pull him away, then a woman. In the background, people can be heard repeatedly shouting: "There are children here!"
The scuffle was short-lived and, as reported by "The New York Post," quickly dispersed by other parade participants. The police were called to the scene, but by the time they arrived, nothing was happening, and no one was detained. In an interview with TMZ.com, Trejo said he felt provoked by the behavior of one of the parade participants, calling the whole incident "childish" and those who didn't face him "cowards."
The comments under the parade video were filled with posts defending the actor and the reputation he has built in recent years. "He's a loving and respectful person who helps others. Sadly, such incidents happen. He doesn't deserve this," wrote one Instagram user. Decades ago, Trejo had legal issues. He was addicted to drugs and alcohol and spent a total of 11 years behind bars for various crimes. He is an example of successful rehabilitation. After leaving prison, he worked as a youth counselor and then, in the '80s, accidentally ended up on a film set. He began getting supporting roles in low-budget films thanks to his boxing skills and distinctive look. Today, his film repertoire includes dozens of productions.
